point plan to end the war. What's the

0:02

White House's response to that and have

0:04

these talks hit a dead end?

0:06

>> Uh they have not. Talks continue. They

0:09

are productive as the president said on

0:10

Monday and they continue to be. Um

0:13

however, I saw a 15-point plan that was

0:15

floated in the media. U I would caution

0:18

reporters in this room um from reporting

0:20

about speculative points or speculative

0:22

plans from anonymous sources. The White

0:24

House never confirmed that full plan.

0:27

There are elements of truth to it, but

0:28

some of the stories I read were not

0:30

entirely factual. So, I am not going to

0:33

negotiate on behalf of the president

0:35

here at the podium. What I will tell you

0:36

is these talks are ongoing. We're not

0:38

going to get into the nitty-gritty

0:40

details u that have been exchanged

0:42

between the United States and Iran at

0:44

this time.

0:44

>> Well, yesterday the president mentioned

0:45

a very big present that the Iranians had

0:48

given the US. He wouldn't go into

0:50

detail, but was it that ship that was

0:52

carrying 2 million barrels of oil that

0:54

made it through the state of Hormuse?

0:55

I'll let the president speak on that at

0:57

the appropriate time.

0:58

>> Okay.

0:58

>> And then finally, Caroline, uh today, uh

1:00

Iraq's government um reportedly is

1:02

planning to lodge a protest with the US.

1:05

According to the Wall Street Journal, uh

1:07

there was an attack in Iraq that hit a

1:09

military clinic, killing seven soldiers,

1:11

reportedly. What's the US's response to

1:14

that? Was the US responsible for that

1:16

attack?

1:16

>> I'll have to check in with the Pentagon

1:18

on that and we'll get you an answer.

1:21

>> Thank you, Caroline. too. If I may,

1:22

Speaker Johnson today described the

1:24

conflict as wrapping up, but the 82nd

1:26

Airborne Division, they're typically

1:28

deployed at the beginning of conflicts.

1:30

So, does the White House uh consider

1:32

this conflict is wrapping up or is it

1:34

changing shape? As I said at the

1:36

beginning of my remarks, we are uh

1:39

meeting our goals of Operation Epic Fury

1:41

expeditiously. Uh the president uh likes

1:44

to maintain options at his disposal.

1:46

It's the Pentagon's job to provide those

1:49

options to the commander-in-chief. For

1:50

any specifics on troop deployments,

1:52

though, I would point you to the

1:53

Pentagon.

1:54

>> And today, Philadelphia District

1:56

Attorney Larry Kraner reiterated threats

1:58

to potentially arrest uh ICE agents that

2:02

were sent in to assist with these

2:03

historically long TSA lines. He said,

2:06

quote, "The president cannot pardon

2:08

you." Has the president seen Kresnner's

2:09

comments? Does he have any response?

2:11

>> The president cannot pardon you for

2:12

what? He's talking to the ICE agents who

2:14

are handing out water bottles and are

2:16

helping people move through lines at

2:18

airports. It's a disgraceful comment. Uh

2:20

the men and women of ICE are great

2:21

people. I would encourage this lawmaker

2:24

whose name I don't know and don't care

2:25

to know um to actually sit down and

2:28

speak with the ICE agents who are on the

2:29

ground doing this important work not

2:31

just in our nation's airport airports

2:33

but again to remove violent dangerous

2:36

illegal alien criminals from our country

2:38

to protect this individual and all of us

2:41

in this room and Americans across the

2:43

country from murderers, pedophiles, and

2:45

rapists who have been allowed into our

2:47

country by Democrat politicians. Mario,

2:49

good to see you.

2:50

>> Thank you, Caroline. can see as well. Uh

2:52

just given uh that the president

2:54

postponed his original trip to China uh

2:57

because of the war, should we infer that

2:59

the war will be wound down and concluded

3:01

by the time of that May 15th 14th visit?

3:04

>> Again, as I've said, uh we've always

3:06

estimated approximately four to six

3:08

weeks. So you could do the math on that,

3:10

Mario. But we do look forward I know the

3:12

president looks forward to going to

3:14

China on May 14th and 15th. And of

3:16

course, as always, we'll provide

3:17

additional logistical details to all of

3:19

you in the media for that trip who I

3:21

know look forward to coming with us as

3:22

well.

3:23

>> One followup. Was that a precondition?

3:25

Did the two leaders speak about the

3:26

conclusion of the war? Was that a

3:28

precondition for them to have this

3:29

rescheduled meeting?

3:30

>> Um, no. There was a discussion about the

3:33

rescheduling of the meeting between the

3:34

president and president Xi. President Xi

3:36

understood that it's very important for

3:38

the president to be here throughout

3:39

these combat operations right now. uh he

3:42

understood obviously um the the request

3:44

to postpone and accepted it which is why

3:46

we have new dates on the books and I'm

3:48

happy to announce those to you today.

3:50

Jennifer

3:50

>> on the in negotiations with Iran are

3:53

there still facetoface talks planned

3:55

perhaps in Pakistan and who do you think

3:58

would probably be going

4:00

>> again? I've seen a lot of speculation uh

4:03

and reporting about potential talks that

4:05

could happen later this week. Uh nothing

4:08

should be deemed official until it is

4:10

announced formally by the White House. I

4:12

would not get ahead of our skis on

4:14

reporting about any talks this week and

4:16

until you hear directly from us.

4:17

>> Does the president think that all of the

4:19

allies will go along with whatever the

4:21

US concludes with these Iranians? Are

4:24

you expecting that Israel and all the

4:26

other allies will follow whatever

4:28

agreement is made? I I think the

4:30

president has shown um that he is

4:32

absolutely the leader of the free world,

4:34

the head of the most powerful military

4:36

in the world. Um and in various

4:39

examples, the 12-day war between Iran

4:41

and Israel, um the ceasefire between

4:43

Israel and Gaza, the president has shown

4:46

uh a very unique skill at getting our

4:48

allies to get on board with what's in

4:50

the best interest of the United States,

4:51

but also the world in cases of foreign

4:53

policy like this.

4:55

>> Ed.

4:55

>> Yeah, thanks. Uh Caroline, so uh is

4:58

there a time frame as to when the first

5:00

oil tanker can go through the straight

5:02

of Hormuz freely?

5:04

>> It's a very good question, Ed. Um I

5:06

don't have a specific timeline for you

5:07

today, but it's obviously something the

5:09

administration is working towards as

5:11

quickly as we can. Uh and with respect

5:13

to oil, as you know, the administration

5:15

has taken a number of actions to

5:17

stabilize the markets. We directed the

5:19

US uh DFC to offer reasonably priced

5:22

political risk insurance for takers

5:24

through the strait. We issued that

5:25

temporary raver to allow countries to

5:27

purchase sanctioned Russian oil uh to

5:30

alleviate global pressures. We're

5:32

working with the IEA to coordinate the

5:33

release of another 400 million barrels.

5:35

We issued that 60-day Jones Day uh act

5:38

waiver. Um, and then just today, um, EPA

5:41

Administrator Lee Zeldon, if you missed

5:42

it, in consultation with the Department

5:44

of Energy, announced a temporary

5:47

emergency fuel waiver to allow

5:48

nationwide sales of E15 gasoline blended

5:52

with five 15% ethanol to remove all

5:54

federal impediments to selling E10

5:56

gasoline across the country. The

5:58

emergency fuel waiver will temporarily

6:00

wave the summer low volatility

6:02

requirements and blending limitations

6:04

for gasoline to provide additional

6:05

flexibility to the fuel marketplace. So,

6:07

as far as tankers through the straight,

6:09

something we're tracking very closely,

6:10

but obviously the administration is

6:12

coming up with creative new solutions by

6:14

the day to keep the price of oil stable.

6:16

Something the president wants to see,

6:17

and I know Secretary Bessant, Secretary

6:19

Wright, Secretary Bergam, EPA

6:21

administrator Zelden are all working

6:23

together closely um to find ways to do

6:25

that.

6:25

>> President gave that five-day timeline uh

6:28

for for pause and operations. Would a

6:30

tanker going through the straight of
