How to play Volleyball

Today we'll learn the rules of volleyball for beginners. Volleyball is a team sport which is played between two teams consisting of six players.

The objective of volleyball is to send the ball over the net to hit the ground on the opponent's side of the court

while the opponent team counters by trying to prevent the ball from being hit on the ground on their side of the court.

Volleyball Player Roles

each team's side of the court is divided into an attack zone and defense zone. Three Players play in each of the zones.

Front row or attack zone players. Main goal is to block the opponent's team ball and attack and try to send the ball over the net to hit the ground on the opponent's team side.

The back row or defense zone players. Main duty is to play defensive games by digging into the opponent's attacks.

Volleyball Rules Volleyball games are played in a best of 3 or 5 sets. If playing best of 3, then the first 4 sets are played to 25 points.

3. If playing best of 5, then the first 4 sets are Played to 25 points. 4. The final set is played to 15 points.

5. To win a set, a team must win by 2 clear points.

6. The team who wins more sets at the end of the game wins. 7. Each team can only touch the ball three times while the ball is on their side of the court.

8. Each team plays with six players and six substitutes. 9. Teams are allowed to substitute at any time but if a player is coming back in the game, then return can only be swapped for the player who replaced that player.

10. Players are not allowed to block or attack a serve from on or from inside the 10 foot line. 11. Players are not allowed to hit the ball twice in succession.

12. Block is not considered as a hit. 13. Players are allowed to touch the ball with any part of their body.

14. Players are not allowed to catch or hold the ball. 15. Players can't finish throw the ball. 16. Players are not allowed to carry and run with the ball.

17. Players are not allowed to reach over the net and hit the ball. 18. Ball may be played off of the net on a serve and during a volley.

19. The volleyball cannot travel under the net. 20. If a ball is being hit within the boundary line, this is considered in the court.

21. If a ball is hitting the floor completely outside of the court, this hit will be considered as an out.

22. Players are prohibited to touch the net with any part of their body. Volleyball Scoring rules

Volleyball has two different scoring methods.

Side out scoring. In this method, only the team who is serving can score points. The non serving team could only earn the right to serve.

Method 2 rally scoring in this scoring method, teams score a point when the other team fails to return the ball legally.

Player Rotating Rules each time in the side out scoring match. All six players of the team who wins possession of the serve must rotate one spot clockwise.

So the right back player will move to the middle back, the middle back player will move to the left back, the left back player will move to the left front, Left front player will move to the middle front, Middle front player will move to the right front and the right front player will move to the back right position.

Now this right back player is the new server.

If the serving team wins a point then stay in the same position after the serve. Attack zone players are allowed to switch positions at the net.
