It's better... 🤔 AirPods Max 2 review vs Sony WH-1000XM6, Bose QC Ultra Gen 2 Headphones

Today we're going to compare the AirPods

Max 2 to the Sony WHX Mark 6 and Bose QC

Ultra Gen 2 in terms of mic pickup,

noise cancelling, transparency, and of

course sound quality. And at the end of

let's start with microphone pickup. I

think it's an area that everyone cares

about, and the AirPods Max 2 in this

area does perform very well versus the

Sony and the Bose. On Apple devices with

voice isolation, the AirPods Max 2 is

capturing at a much higher fidelity. So,

my voice sounds crisper and clearer than

the Sony WHX Mark 6 and especially the

Bose QC Ultra Gen 2 because the Bose is

not amplifying my voice as much as

either the Sony or the AirPods Max 2. On

Android devices, both the Sony and the

Bose reduce background noise more, and

in that sense, they are better than the

AirPods Max 2. But compared to the Max

2, the Sony's voice pickup sounds a bit

more muffled. While on the Bose, my

voice sounds very soft and recess

compared to the AirPods Max 2. Listen to

For active noise cancelling, the AirPods

Max 2 is very effective against the low

and lower mid frequency noises. So, even

in situations like maybe you're taking

the public transport, uh, shopping at

the mall, or maybe you're in a noisy

cafe, studying or working, it's going to

bring all that background rumble down,

and you do get a deep silence. It's

definitely better than what the previous

gen AirPods Max offered. And that is

something that I covered in this video,

but higher frequency noises do get

through a tiny bit more than either the

Sony or the Bose, which means you're

going to hear a little bit more of the

fan, the air conditioning, human voices,

the sound of your wife snoring in case

you wear your headphones to sleep.

As for transparency mode, the AirPods

Max 2 is no doubt the best in this

comparison. Wearing them with

transparency feels like not wearing them

at all. It's that transparent. From the

pass through of my own voice to ambient

sounds around me, it all felt very

natural. Well, the Sony's are almost

like that, but how they are different

from the AirPods Max 2 is that they're a

bit darker in the ambiance and voices

are a bit more amplified, including my

own voice, which is a bit better for

face-to-face conversations, but not

exactly as transparent or as natural as

the AirPods Max 2. The Gen 2 QC Ultra's

transparency is quite good and great for

general awareness and face-to-face

conversations, but they're noticeably

more oluded in the ambiance. So, it

doesn't feel as transparent as either

the Sony WHX Mark 6 or the AirPods Max

2. Now, for sound quality, I've recorded

some sound samples comparing these

Max 2, the Sony WHX Mark 6 has a heavier

sound with more body and bass. It has

also got more presence and impact, which

some people may prefer. On the other

hand, the AirPods Max 2 sounds cleaner

separated and has more emphasis on

crispness, clarity, and aireriness,

which when compared side by side can

make the Mach 6 headphones seem rather

dark and dull compared to the Max 2. The

AirPods transparency mode is also

cleaner than the Sony's. And if you're

on Apple's ecosystem, the AirPods Max 2

works like a dream because you can

seamlessly switch between devices

without going through any pairing

process, share audio with other AirPods

users, and even if it doesn't support

high- res wireless streaming like the

Sony with its LDAC codec support, the

AirPods Max 2 does support wired 24bit

48 kHz audio over USB. B type-C. You

also get head gesture controls on iOS,

conversation awareness, and adaptive

audio, which reacts to your ambient

noise levels by cancelling noise

automatically. It's pretty fun. It fades

in and out of noise cancelling depending

on how loud your environment is. On the

other hand, what I like about the Sony

is that it's fully supported on both iOS

and Android devices. So, it doesn't

matter which ecosystem you're on. You're

going to have full access to its

settings and features, which includes

multi-point pairing, which lets you

connect up to two devices at the same

time and switch between them for audio

and calls. It's pretty useful. It's also

much more customizable with a 10b

graphic EQ, which I have used to make it

sound way better than its stock

settings. Now, here's my custom EQ

setting for the XM6 headphones, just in

case you're interested. Now, the XM6

headphones are also lighter and more

comfortable for long periods of wearing

than the AirPods Max 2. And in terms of

portability, it's also easier to pack

away since it folds into a smaller

package and has a fully enclosed case.

All things considered, the XM6

headphones seems like better value to me

in terms of features and performance,

but the AirPods Max 2 does have its own

special appeal and usefulness,

especially to Apple users like me.

Comparing the AirPods Max 2 to the Gen 2

QC Ultra, the AirPods sound better in

the sense that track separation is

cleaner, vocals sound heavier, its bass

extension is tighter, and compared to
