Sophie Ashley's Interview- Part Two
FULLSTÄNDIGT TRANSKRIPT
That. Okay. Like, why did you start? I actually went out places with Izzy. Okay. I obviously saw you quite a lot.
Yeah. Like, because I was in Shefford a lot at that point. Emily a lot. Emily was around, like, every day.
I was about to say. Yeah, I remember you seeing Emily quite a lot. Yeah.
I go to, like, bingo or quiz sometimes with, like, Millie
just to really feel a bit more like. Yeah, yeah. Like, I think I've always said it. I'm not really big on drinking and stuff like that anymore.
No, I know you, like,
I go out a lot more, but I just. Then I did not have the time. No. But I was still trying to adjust and learn how to balance that.
It was a lot to balance. Then obviously, I got a job in October. Yes. This year. And I kind of have my social life at work.
Right. Yeah. It's like two in one. Like, it's so chill because everyone's kind of friends that are minus, you know?
Yeah, yeah. Everyone's kind of friends there. So
it's. It feels like a social life at work. It's so chill, like.
Yeah. So how.
How are you able to balance. This is not like me being like a dig. It's like, genuinely curious. How are you able to balance uni and work and placement and all that nonsense?
Well, work are really flexible. Yeah. They know I'm a student nurse. I tell them my availability each week.
Yeah. And they write to me when I'm available. Okay, that's cool.
Placement. I don't have placement until, like, you know, late April, early May. And when I'm in placement, I told them I could only probably do one day a week.
And they said that's fine. Just like, you know, we do the availability week by week, so. Yeah, rotors out for next week, and then next week they'll ask for availability for the week after.
Oh, that's so true. And I'll just let them know at the end of the week and then they'll just put me on the day I'm free.
Okay, that's good.
Just come back onto the whole uni thing. So if you had to write a review on Sheffield Hallam for, like, future students.
Because that's generally the concept of this magazine. It's like. Yeah. Does it have to be positive? No, you could be negative as you want.
I genuinely need a realistic review, not one of those. Like, I think he's the best one in the. Okay. If you want real and raw, I just want.
I want mine some positive and some negative. If you want real and raw, I Think they're
like,
Hallam help is shit.
It's genuinely like, I'm being so honest.
They're crap. Okay,
what about the uni itself? Not the uni itself.
The uni itself is actually good. Like, you know, there's a lot of facilities everywhere. It's a really, like.
At least for me, at Collegiate, it's a lovely campus.
It's nice, you know, it's now like, you know, healthcare. Like, everyone kind of knows. Yeah, everyone knows each other.
Yeah, it's nice. The law people have moved into that new building, which, by the way, is brilliant. I love that new building.
Like, I like leisure and, like, the facilities available are good. Like, the food is good. I think that, you know, the uni really does care about its students.
I just don't think.
I don't know what it is. I just don't understand
how you can promote that. You care about your students so much, but where you refer your students to Hallam help, it's just not.
Hell, yeah. Like, that's the only thing that brings it down for me is, and I think a lot of people could say it's, Hallam help is just not helpful when, you know,
like, when my paternity plan was in place and stuff like that and, like, trying to sort this whole flipping thing in first year, they were just really unhelpful and they just kept saying that I'd failed.
And I was like, no, it's literally under investigation. And I remember my. The level four progression leader at the time was getting so frustrated with how and help.
So I don't know why do you keep sending this? No, of course, like, they don't communicate. No,
I also think.
I also think maybe just personal, my experiences, I was just let down a lot. Let down?
Yeah, a little bit. Like, I didn't get a placement in first year and I don't get to graduate on time because of that.
No, I get that. And it wasn't my fault. Placement team didn't give me a placement because they said I wasn't cleared, but I was cleared.
And I've now got to make up those hours still, which is fine because I need two, 300 hours, but I don't get any leeway for graduation because of that.
No. That means because of their mistake, I don't get to graduate on time. Okay. I don't like that. No.
That pisses me off. Yeah, I do get that. Because even if I'd done that placement and, you know, I missed my January placement, I would had enough makeup time to graduate on Time,
so I'm not happy about that. No, I can imagine. Overall, though, I think the uni is, you know, good. I've not been to City Campus, really, but I'll let you know, like, my doctors is there and they're good.
Oh, my God, my doctor's lovely. He's, you know, he's just diagnosed me with, like, OCD and stuff and he really listened to me and I'm like, yeah, you deserve, like, you deserve this job here, like, as a student doctor.
Like, you really do listen. And that's what a lot of people need, especially students that probably stressed and just want someone to listen to them anyway.
Okay. So you felt like there's always somewhere you can go. Yeah.
I phone the GP and I was like, listen, my mental health is, like, not doing great at the minute. Please can I come in and just discuss my options?
And they got me in the same day. I was about to ask how long they got me in the same day. That's cool.
An hour after I phoned them. That is insane, actually. I like that. It was lovely.
So if you have to recommend, because it's not so much about your interview, but it's about just the whole magazine itself.
Yeah. If you have to recommend, like, activities or things to do in Sheffield, what would you do for students that is,
like, you can literally name pubs. Well, obviously students, if you're going with friends, you have to go to Meadow, of course.
Like, that's just the main one. That was like one of the first things I did if I had to Recommend Anything else.
10 pin. But Blazzy loved Tempin in first year I was there, like every day, I swear. Yeah, you might as well have just got a job there.
Well, they do stream discount, especially on Tuesdays. It's like 50 off or something like that. It's one of the cheaper.
Yeah, it's one of the cheaper ones. So cheap.
If you're going out, then obviously, you know Molly Malone, Tiger works West Street Live. Yes, Stein House.
I used to do that whole. The west street strip.
Leopold Square, an Orchard square, you know, nice little shops, if you like that. Of course.
Botanical gardens, Peace gardens, if you like that. There's a lot of gardens. Yeah. Like,
there's all down to the person, I think, and what they like to do. But obviously in first year, I was a.
A West Street Live, a West Street Live girl, a West Street Live girl, through and through. And then obviously a lot changed.
And then when you go west street now, it's like, it's not as good as what you used to swear. That's not how I remember it.
Unless my frontal lobe is actually developed. Is not how I remember it because even when I went in and I, I've been on nights out even since moving out of Sheffield so bad I'm like, oh my God.
Do students actually enjoy this? Yeah, I do sit and think. I'm like, did I enjoy this? I'm like, did we enjoy the same west street what people are seeing now?
Yeah. Or was it different then? I think our frontal load might be developed maybe. I don't know cuz I, I, I mean I'm not a massive fan of clubs in general.
I personally prefer, I used to love it and I just think, I think having Izzy just completely changed up.
Drink then. I didn't drink for so long.
Well, vibes change over time. So like the last time I had obviously properly gone out out was like a year before
and you know, vibes changes and it's just like oh my God, like people, different new faces. Like just new faces, new people, new vibe.
This is not my vibe. Like if I were in Molly's now, let's say I won't recognize most people in there.
Whereas if I went in two years ago, a lot of them are regulars. Like when we used to go to the quizzes, you used to see the same names on Baba Booie.
That's the one. Whoever you are. No.
Even though this won't be published. Baba Booie. I remember that flipping name. Big Daddy. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
So overall Sheffield. Sheffield's good.
I definitely plan to live here. Yes. That leaves after uni. I am going to stay here.
Jo's doing a master's here. Oh really?
Trying to think then. So
do you see yourself in like Shefford as a long term thing or is it like maybe for a couple of years and then see how it goes?
I'm not, I'm really not sure yet. All I know is that as of right now we'll be staying in Sheffield cuz Joe's doing his masters and I've obviously got to finish my placement hours and I'm probably going to find a job.
Yes. Round here. I don't really want to work in Sheffield because you know, being a nurse and that notice.
But I'll probably, you know, look into like Chesterfield, Leeds. Leeds again. They've got quite a royal.
Yeah. Was it really General
Infirmary?
It's one of them.
Like not Manchester, Not Manchester, I think Leeds or like Chesterfield, Barnsley, Rotherham. Not Doncaster.
Someone that has been to Barnsley. Don't. Not the hospital. No, I've not been to Barnsley hospital. No, I wasn't going to live.
No, no, no, I'm saying like a hospital there,
but I don't know. I'll see what jobs are going by the time I apply. No, it's obviously down to a job available.
As of right now, the plan is we're happy to stay in Sheffield. Okay. We really enjoy it here. It's student friendly, it's affordable, one of the cheapest affordable living.
And, you know, we live in a really nice home and it's affordable. Yeah, of course.
You know, loads of lovely parks. It's the greenest city in the country,
so, yeah, loads of parks. Lots to do with Isabella.
She loves. She loves nurseries. She's got all her little baby friends there and I wouldn't want to take her away.
Yeah. So no plans are definitely to stay here for now. Good.
I don't think there's anything more to add unless we have anything to say. I don't think so. But obviously, if you need.
If I need anything else, then I'll just send you a message. Just send me voice names. Just send your voice name of everything.
But, yeah, no, I honestly think that is enough. Oh, my God, it's five past four. What the are we doing?
And I honestly. Five past four in the morning. Five past four. Let me stop.
Oh, my gosh.
