40 Years of Darts Taught Him This Simple Rule - Paul Lim
TRANSCRIÇÃO COMPLETA
How you practice is how you're going to
throw in the tournament. So try to do
the same thing because you know you know
when you practice that are you throwing
well or are you not throwing well. So
you cannot lie to yourself. Consistency
of the point of release that's all
because if your throw is perfect every
time is going to be in the triple 20.
But that is not possible. Paul Lib the
Singapore slinger a world championship
legend. The first [music] man to ever
hit a nine dart finish on that stage and
still competing at the highest level 40
years later. We've got something special
lined up for you as well. So make sure
to check the description below. Ladies
and gentlemen at Dart Shopper, I am here
with the legend Paul Lim. So basically
your line is that you got to be set up
when you know your line is like that.
Yeah. From here. So you set up a line.
So once you get the alignment right, set
up.
But the point of release also really
depends on your salaration. the pros and
the the really good players, right?
Their acceleration is not really about
how hard they throw, but it's a
coordination of their wrist break. It's
it's a bit of both, okay? Because it's
almost like a basketball player. You
find a basketball player
>> [music]
>> uh who when they go on on on a
three-pointer or whatever it is, it's
about their wrist. Yeah. So, the wrist
the wrist play is very important.
>> When people are understanding about the
release point, so obviously if you get
too far here, you'll snatch your D and
it'll go
>> it's going to go down. Yeah. So,
whereabouts do you feel that you release
your dart?
>> This is where you need to practice that
you need to understand that there is a
reason why the dart goes down or there's
a reason why the dart goes up. This
there there reasons is because of your
throw. Because if your throw is perfect
every time, it's going to be in the
triple 20. But that is not possible. In
the early days when I was coming up, I
used to play I would probably say 8
hours. I honestly play eight hours when
I was back in Singapore when I first
started to get into the seriousness of
black darts. But now uh I cut short but
I do spurt you know I do maybe 1 hour
then one and a half hour I'll break
break it through in a day I probably
throw to all together maybe three four
hours but it's all broken up anyway you
know. So would you say that most people
will have a natural uh strength of how
they throw and then it's about finding
the release point within your throw?
>> Consistency of the point of release
that's all.
>> Sure.
>> So I I mean as we know right throwing
darts the hardest thing in duts is
consistency
to throw with the same velocity the same
acceleration the same point of release
the same wrist snap. I mean this
combination right?
>> Yeah.
>> To do it all the time. Yeah. Is so
difficult time. And that is that is the
reason why perfection is impossible.
>> How you practice is how you're going to
throw in the tournament. So try to do
the same thing. Uh the same routine of
when you walk up to the line, how you
going to line where they stand, you see
that most of the pros when they you
watch them when they walk up to the
line, they know exactly where they going
to stand already.
>> So that you'll be the same because
standing from to too much to the right,
the throw is different.
>> Yeah.
>> Because the angle is different. Well,
right now uh like last year I was like
thinking about the triple crown. The
triple crown is basically the PDC World
Cup winning it then the super dot soft
tip win it and the PDC world
championship win it. I mean I mean but
that is that is not easy but again to me
I think I try I want to be a part of the
three and it's a shame that this this
year I accomplished two but I missed out
on the super dats and our balance is
very important. Okay. I always say the
distribution of weight uh because it's
very difficult to stand straight and
throw throw darts.
>> Yeah.
>> Because it doesn't feel right.
>> And you've got quite a nice stable base.
It's only
>> it's not too far back. It's
>> Yeah. It's it's enough balance and the
the weight distribution is in the front
and then you set up accelerate. [music]
>> Oh, you see that push?
>> So, I'm just watching your your flight
goes to the back just by your face.
>> By your face. Yeah. Because I push
straight, I will hit my face. You see?
So this is where I kind of you find like
look little I look Humphrey is side of
the face but he goes to the side
>> and little bends it round.
>> That's right. That's right. So this is
something where you got to get used to
but [music] at the end the follow
through I think from point B to point C
is the most important.
>> I agree
>> because that you have to have to be
flawless and as smooth as you can a good
follow through
>> so that your dad will carry to to the
board. [music]
>> Absolutely. Let's have a look.
Set.
>> I I've seen a lot of players when they
take the dart back, they actually roll.
>> Okay. Now I I I personally if I were to
teach my my my uh fundamental of dots to
my students I always say is that a grip
is a grip because once upon a time right
when I first started playing darts I I
hold my dots like that like that. I was
in England then and it was cold. Okay.
And every time I go and play in a pub
with my friends every time I do this
twist because my hand is so cold it
falls out.
>> It just lock in. Let me try again. Oh,
let me try again. And it's become very
frustrating. One day I was at home and I
actually did that and I was telling
myself I said no this is where I throw
the dart from.
>> So why not stop?
>> Why don't I start from there? [laughter]
>> So that I cut down all the extra to make
it
>> unnecessary movement. That's why I say
the simpler the better. Well, it it's a
commitment in in term of practicing
because honestly I mean the saying goes
right practice makes perfect. You you
you can't run away from that. I cannot
see someone say that oh I don't practice
at all and I'm really good because
somehow rather you have to because
practicing is about creating the
consistency because you know you know
when you practice that are you throwing
well or are you not throwing well so you
cannot lie to yourself. So find the
line. Set up. Take back.
Go. [music]
O. Push it.
Okay.
You got a pretty good throw, too.
>> Well, that's your I'm trying to do, so
maybe it's just cuz it's yours.
>> No, [laughter] it is. No, I I it's it's
like I say again, you know, I mean, I
always say throwing darts is very very
simple
>> to be consistent is really the hardest
thing. That's what it is.
>> Easiest game in the world to play
harder.
You're dealing with millimeters.
>> I mean, you look at the [music] world
best player right now. Okay. What is
their percentage of accuracy? You tell
me.
>> 60 or 70%.
>> Yeah. Yeah.
