All right, welcome everybody to the

0:02

Lakers Legacy podcast where RIP and

0:06

condolences to all the dookies all

0:08

around the world for the pure madness

0:11

that was their march. Particularly

0:14

Lakers dookies like JJ Reic and Luke

0:16

Canard. What an ending and what a loss

0:19

to Dan Hurley and the Yukon Huskies. But

0:22

you know what? Something tells me that

0:23

Reic and Canard will get over their alma

0:26

moater's tragic last second loss because

0:30

they frankly got bigger fish to fry

0:32

after madnessing their own march this

0:35

past month with the Lakers by going 13-2

0:39

in their last 15 games. And now the

0:42

playoffs await in just two weeks. I'm

0:45

your host, Jonathan Hernandez, and your

0:47

Los Angeles Lakers are now 48 and 26, 22

0:51

games above 500 with just eight games

0:55

left to go till the start of their

0:57

official road to number 18. And though

1:00

Luca Donic will be missing the next game

1:03

due to suspension, the vibes are still

1:06

higher than they've ever been and the

1:08

team looks more locked in than ever. And

1:11

in today's episode, we are going to go

1:13

over concrete reasons why this year's

1:16

Lakers team will have a different, more

1:19

positive fate than last year's team. And

1:22

while some of the reasons may seem

1:24

obvious, I just wanted to make sure to

1:26

run through this exercise so that we

1:29

could clearly lay everything out on the

1:31

table and clearly articulate why I don't

1:34

think we as Lakers fans should be

1:37

walking into this year's playoffs with

1:39

too much lingering PTSD from last

1:42

season. So, I've got about four reasons

1:44

that I want to go over with you guys

1:46

today. But before we get to that, if I

1:48

could please ask you guys to like this

1:50

video, comment down below, and most

1:52

importantly, hit subscribe, I would

1:54

greatly appreciate it. Also, please

1:55

consider becoming a member to this

1:57

Lakers Legacy YouTube channel, where you

1:59

will get access to my members exclusive

2:02

videos, including some nitty-gritty cap

2:05

space stuff as well. All right, with

2:07

that said, let's get into my four

2:09

reasons why this year's Lakers are

2:12

different different than last year's

2:14

Lakers and why I think they will have a

2:17

better fairing in the playoffs and make

2:19

it past at least the first round. All

2:21

right, so let's get into those four

2:23

reasons right now and let's start with

2:25

number one, the Lakers Western

2:27

Conference competition this year. Now

2:30

obviously the same teams exist in the

2:32

west but I think things have changed in

2:35

certain respects and I actually think if

2:37

you dissect each and every team in the

2:40

Western Conference this year I think the

2:42

Lakers Western Conference competition

2:44

has actually gotten weaker. So let's

2:47

kind of run through some of the Lakers

2:51

potential opponents in the first round

2:52

and even the second round. Let's start

2:55

with the Houston Rockets. The Rockets,

2:57

particularly recently, have been an

2:59

absolute mess. The vibes, unlike the

3:02

Lakers, have never been more sour. They

3:05

just suffered that crazy overtime loss

3:08

where they had a double-digit lead and

3:10

still lost to the Minnesota

3:11

Timberwolves, I believe. Uh they seem

3:14

absolutely screwed without a true point

3:16

guard. They have missed Fred Van Vleet

3:18

the entire year. Reed Shepard, while he

3:21

has been good and they have been

3:23

relatively good when he has started, is

3:25

still not a

3:27

veteran point guard that you need to

3:30

take that team over the top. Kevin

3:32

Durant has been overt taxed and you

3:34

almost start to wonder whether the Dylan

3:37

Brooks KD swap was worth it for the

3:40

culture and vibes alone. This season,

3:43

the Lakers are two- one versus the

3:45

Houston Rockets. And obviously, the last

3:47

two games being those back-to-back games

3:49

in Houston, where the Rockets just could

3:52

not figure out the Lakers trapping zone

3:55

defense on Kevin Durant. And for the

3:57

first time in the last few seasons, the

3:59

Lakers looked like the more physical and

4:02

athletic team. All because the Rockets

4:04

had no true offensive cohesion,

4:08

cohesion, and offensive creation. So,

4:10

number one, I think the Rockets are

4:12

weaker, and if the Lakers face off

4:13

against the Rockets, I don't think the

4:15

Lakers should be too scared. Now, let's

4:17

move on to the Denver Nuggets. I know we

4:21

always get a lot of PTSD with this one,

4:23

which makes sense. They have terrorized

4:25

us for multiple seasons when we had

4:28

Anthony Davis. But I do think we have to

4:30

sort of separate ourselves from the AD

4:34

era, which is crazy and hard to do

4:35

because last season we still had AD for

4:38

the first half of the year. But the

4:40

Denver Nuggets,

4:42

while I don't necessarily think that

4:44

they they got weaker per se, I do think

4:47

that our matchup with the Nuggets since

4:49

Luca has joined the team has been pretty

4:53

vastly different because the Luca Lakers

4:56

whenever we face Joic and the Nuggets,

4:59

the L the Luca Lakers are a different

5:01

beast. And with Luca in tow, it's almost

5:04

like we have a Jokic of our own, but at

5:07

the wing position to throw at Denver.

5:09

And all of a sudden, the Nuggets have

5:12

this crazy riddle that they have to

5:14

solve on our end. And so far, since the

5:18

Luca Donuch trade, the Lakers are 4-2 in

5:22

their last six games versus Denver. And

5:24

Luca himself is 4-1. The only other

5:27

Lakers loss was that one on the road

5:30

when both Braun and Luca sat last

5:33

season. And if you remember, Austin and

5:35

Dalton and randomly shake Milton banded

5:39

together and almost beat the Nuggets

5:41

themselves short-handed. And that was

5:42

the game where Austin and DK, I think,

5:45

both put up 30 plus points. But anyways,

5:48

the Lakers are 4-2 in their last six

5:50

games versus Denver. Luca himself is

5:52

4-1. And so this year, I'm a little bit

5:55

more confident in a Denver Nuggets

5:57

matchup in the first round. Even though

5:59

again, it still does

6:02

strike fear into my heart for obvious

6:05

reasons. But I think once we get over

6:07

sort of like the initial PTSD and shock,

6:09

I think Lakers fans will come to realize

6:12

that I don't know with Luca Donuch, this

6:15

might be a matchup we actually want,

6:18

especially if we take into account the

6:20

last few games where we have looked like

6:22

the more

6:24

rabid and athletic team against the

6:26

Nuggets and have looked more offensively

6:28

cohesive than them as well. All right,

6:31

so that's the Denver Nuggets. That's the

6:32

Houston Rockets. Next up, let's talk

6:34

about the Minnesota Timberwolves.

6:37

Kind of like the Rockets, I feel like

6:39

they've been a very lost and messy team

6:41

this year that's been searching for

6:43

their own identity. Mike Connley's a

6:45

year older. Uh they have really missed

6:48

Nikuel Alexander Walker. Anthony Edwards

6:51

in this latter stretch of the season has

6:53

been pretty banged up. Luca Donuch is

6:56

actually 4-0 versus the Wolves in the

6:59

regular season since he's joined the

7:01

Lakers. And this year, the Lakers swept

7:04

their season series with the Wolves 3-0.

7:07

And while I know we lost to the Wolves

7:09

in the playoffs, 1 four last season, we

7:12

do have to remember that one, the Wolves

7:14

had Nikuel Alexander Walker. Two, Luca

7:17

wasn't as healthy and well conditioned

7:20

as he was now. I mean, that we were

7:23

still talking about, you know, Luca

7:25

making his way back from his injury and

7:29

honestly, he was not in shape. And then

7:31

on top of that, Luca was had a stomach

7:34

virus. He was throwing up at halftime in

7:37

game three. So, who knows how that

7:39

series would have gone if the Lakers

7:41

hadn't dropped game three and had a

7:43

truly healthy Luca because LeBron was

7:45

going off in that game. And then on top

7:48

of all of that, Austin Reeves was also

7:50

super banged up in that playoff series.

7:53

We just didn't find out about his the

7:55

what he was dealing with footwise after

7:57

that series had already concluded. And

7:59

so this season, the Timberwolves, I

8:02

don't know. Obviously, there will be

8:04

PTSD from having to face them again just

8:06

because of how last year's series ended.

8:09

But I don't think Lakers fans should be

8:12

that afraid either because one, we have

8:14

swept and owned the Timberwolves this

8:16

season. And two, there are very tangible
