>> All right, welcome to the home opener

for Trinity football this year and

welcome to T ESPN coverage of Prep

League football. I am Rick Hamlin joined

here by JJ Welchure, class of 2027 and

producer Ash Bell, class of 2026.

We are very excited to bring you the

Titans home opener. Uh Trinity started

the year the season uh last week up in

Rono beating Northcross 36 to28 and Fork

Union

>> went on the road to Virginia Beach and

beat Catholic High School 26-21. So JJ,

we got a couple 1 and0 teams. Prep

league opener, home opener, hot summer

feeling day. Uh how excited are you to

get this thing going?

>> Very excited. You know, you as you said,

Trendy's coming off a great win versus

Northcross. This high-flying offense was

able to put up 36 points over a very

good Northcross team. And the stifling

defense also was able to cause a couple

turnovers, put pressure on the

quarterback, and get a couple sacks as

well. So, I'm just excited to see if

they're able to keep this up, keep up

the score.

>> Yeah, for sure. I mean, last season was

such an interesting one for the Titans.

um

>> got off to a good start. Couple tough

losses uh including a big one at

Woodbury where the Titans had I think a

28-10 lead that they squandered and then

came back with a big senior day win

against St. Christopher's make it into

the state tournament and had a 28-7 lead

at Benedicting. Were you there JJ?

>> Yeah, I was.

>> I mean that's a game that I think

anybody who was there will will never

forget. uh for the Titan fans for the

wrong reasons, but tip your hat to the

cadetses who came back and and knocked

us off 29-28.

And I know these guys all off season

from the day after that have been

wanting to get back into the state

playoffs, get that redemption and uh and

just come back from what was a really

heartbreaking ending to what was

otherwise a pretty good season. So, hey,

we're going to pause it real quick as we

get ready to do the national anthem here

and JJ and I will be right back in just

about one minute.

All right. Beautiful uh rendition of the

Star Spangle Banner there by the Trinity

Pep Band. And

man, I am I'm pumped for this one, JJ.

Just uh being back here in the booth at

AOK Stadium. Titans in all gray today

with the green helmets.

Fork union all whites with the white

helmets. Uh temperature here at kickoff

got to be I'm thinking mid to upper 80s.

Yeah, 89 degrees.

>> Real feel even warmer than that in the

up in the 90s. And I bet on that turf

down there it's got to feel like close

to 100 degrees out there. But um in

games like this, you know, cramping is

always an issue. We got to make sure

they stay hydrated and that really

starts last night, you know, if you

don't do proper hydration the night

before on a warm humid day like this. Um

it's almost too late at this point. Uh

so hopefully everybody took that

seriously and uh yeah, couple of one

and0 teams. Want to give a a shout out

if he is watching to uh Mr. Coach Carter

Tyrie, who is uh out of town this

weekend at a wedding, but set us up

beautifully and Ash hit a couple buttons

and we were live and ready to go. So, uh

Tyrie, I hope you're having a good time

and I'm guessing you're tuned in to make

sure that we got this thing off and

running. And really excited, JJ, to to

be sharing the booth with you. I know we

did some stuff together um a little bit

last year and you're a great sports fan

and I know uh actually Lane Cassadante

is here who uh I know we're gonna try

and get you hooked on with him for uh

junior work week down there with the big

camera. So, if he's here at halftime,

I'll introduce you. But here we go.

Opening kick, short kick fielded by one

of the Upman. And it's a a solid return

for the Titans just across midfield.

And

think it was Carson Parks. Um, little

tough to tell, but I'm pretty sure it

was Carson Parks, the se the senior

running back who fielded that ball and

took it down to the Fork Union 48 yd

line. And that's where the Titans will

take their first snap from scrimmage

today. Junior Deakco Scogan,

the new QB1 for the Titans this year

after three years of Tag Logan as the

signal caller.

>> Very interested to see how it'll play

today. Last game he went for 202 yards,

two touchdowns, but the three

interceptions is a little bit shaky.

Willing to see how well he'll bounce

back this game.

>> Little inside pitch. They get the ball

into the hands of Deion Brown and he

starts off the first play from scrimmage

all the way inside the five and the man

they call fat rat is pushed out at the

two yd line. What a dream start for the

Titans and really simple play and uh you

know you just talked about Dee put up

some big numbers last week but also

three the three interceptions and

actually got a chance to watch some of

the film with a couple of the coaches

and I know they were frustrated at a

couple of his decisions there but that

was just a great play that put Dee in a

great position and anytime you can get

the ball in the hands of Devon Brown

good things usually happen. Devon just

comes into this game uh as we hand off

and it's a touchdown Titans.

>> CJ Gray.

>> There is

no flags down. Sorry, I thought I saw

one for a second, but I saw that wrong.

So 6 in the first 30 seconds. Great

start for the Titans. And uh yeah, Devon

Brown I was just going to say is uh

coming to this game 258 yards from the

all-time receiving yards in Central

Virginia, not just Trinity, but the 804

area. And he had 46 yards on that first

reception. So whittling that number down

to about 212 yards. And if he stays

healthy this year, he's going to

obliterate that record um possibly as

soon as the next week or two.

>> No doubt. Got to give credit to the

offensive line on that play though. Able

to open up that hole to give DaVon a

path to run and also give credit to Duce

Mason on the outside. He was able to

hold that corner off so that uh DaVon

could get down the sideline and if he

wasn't caught would have been a

touchdown very early on on the first

play.

>> Yeah. and he's also uh just 11

touchdowns away from the all-time

receiving touchdowns record in the 804,

which obviously that one's going to be a

little trickier, but I'm sure he would

have loved those those last two yards to

uh to get what would have been his 27th

receiving touchdown in his incredible

career. Um Devon Brown is a senior who

is committed to Penn State, the number

two team in the country right now. Uh

the Nitney Lions cannot wait. I bet

they'd love to have him today as they

take on uh Florida International. And

they got a big one coming up in a couple

weeks against Oregon

up there in State College, Pennsylvania.

But uh yeah, unbelievable start here for

the Titans.

Great field position and a two-play

touchdown drive. And we now get to see

Evan Goldmid, class of 2027, like

yourself, JJ. He's been the starting

kicker this is his third year now. He's

made some critical kicks in his career.
