Football vs Anacostia HS 10/4
FULLSTÄNDIGT TRANSKRIPT
Good afternoon and welcome to today's
Teesp broadcast of high school football.
We're here at AOK Stadium on the banks
of the James River at Trinity Episcopal
School
as the Trinity Episcopal Titans today on
a perfect autumn day for football
host Anacostia High School out of
Washington DC.
And Titans come in at 5-0. Anacostia
comes in at 1 and3. I am Rick Hamlin,
joined here by JJ Wiltshire,
my sidekick, best color commentator in
the state. Certainly the best student
color commentator in the state. Um, and
you can print that. And we got Briggs PR
on the production. Executive producer
Carter Tyrie and uh welcome
>> JJ before we do the anthem. And there is
going to be a little pregame ceremony
for Devon Brown that we'll talk about in
a minute. But uh what are you looking
for on this lovely autumn afternoon, JJ?
>> Yeah, this Titans offense has been
firing on all cylinders. 40 plus points
over the last four games and 36 in the
first. This Anacostia offense has not
been doing as well. No points in the
last two weeks while giving up 91 total.
It's going to be a tough game for
Anacostia to come out here and get a win
on homecoming where the spirits are
high. We have a dance later today. Um,
>> yeah, it's going to be tough for them to
come out here and get a win. And the
Titans are just looking to build this
momentum while going into a tough
threeame stretch of Glenn Allen, St.
Chris, and Benedicting to end the
season.
>> Brown officially.
>> Yeah, absolutely. So, you might be able
to hear right now over the PA, but uh
Devon Brown, senior, wide receiver, and
kind of everything. Safety, running
back, kick returner. Uh probably I think
it's safe to say the greatest player in
Triny Episcopal football history is
currently getting honored. Devian broke
the alltime Central Virginia record for
receiving yards uh against St. Michael
the Archangel two weeks ago and
Devian is also just a few touchdowns
short of the alltime uh receiving
touchdown record in Central Virginia.
But uh right now as you look at your
screen,
>> you see uh number four Devon Brown
surrounded by his family. He's going to
be walking out to the field to receive
the game ball from uh athletic director
Adam Lenon. Head coach Sam Mickens is
out there as well as offensive
coordinator Malcolm Bell. And you see a
huge contingent from the Brown family.
Um they are rolling deep today to honor
the man they call fat rat um Penn State
commit and just been truly a joy to
watch Davon Brown the these last four
years and you know thankfully we've
still got four regular season games plus
hopefully some postseason to continue to
watch him do his thing. But um JJ,
you've heard the expression it takes a
village to raise a child and it's really
neat to look out onto AOK Stadium right
at midfield and see the village that
surrounds Debon Brown right now. Yeah,
it's been an amazing career. We usually
don't see players playing all four years
on varsity, but ever since Davianis came
to Trend, he stepped on this field. He
has been a starter. He's been a key
player. And all four years, he stayed
consistent. Hasn't been injuryprone,
which is good. Hasn't really had any
down years. He's been consistent, like I
said earlier. So, it's just been a great
career for DaVon.
>> Yeah. And I mean, it started his very
first game, his freshman year. Titans
playing at Benedictine. It was a late
August day. JJ, this would have been, I
think, the year before you arrived.
>> Yep. as a Titan, but uh it was 100
degrees, humid, um guys were cramping up
on both sides. The game was 000 going
into the fourth quarter. And Devon Brown
in his first ever high school game as a
14-year-old
had three touchdowns in the fourth
quarter to lead the Titans to a 21-7
victory at Benedicting and he's really
just kept it rolling ever since then.
and be really excited to follow his
career at Penn State. Of course, coach
James Franklin and the Nitney Lions. Uh
been a consistent top 10 program the
last few years and they haven't quite
gotten over the hump to win a
championship, but uh who knows, Devian
could be that that X factor that helps
uh Penn State get to the promised land.
So, um guys are lining up now. We, uh
Anacostia is out on the field ready to
kick off, but uh I think we still have
not done the national anthem yet. So,
we are about to have that moment here as
the players line up. The Brown family,
extended family, uh, makes their way off
the field from that pregame ceremony.
>> And we now hear the
>> PA asking folks to rise. And we will
listen to the trendy pep band play the
Star Spangle Banner.
[Music]
All right. Nice job there by the Trinity
Pep Band students playing those
instruments as we
honor America. Here we are October the
4th, 2025
and not a cloud in the sky, low7s, low
humidity. Um if you were to dial up uh
the kind of weather you would want to
have for your homecoming football game,
uh I don't think you could ask for
better than this, JJ.
>> Yeah, they picked a very great day to do
his homecoming day. We see the Trrendy
alum section over there. There's a lot
of people over there. Trendy student
section, not as full as maybe the
football players would have hoped, but
still a decent crowd. A bunch of seniors
out there, a couple of freshman in the
back. Uh bunch of fans I saw when I was
walking up. Um grandparents, aunts,
uncles came out to support their team
today. And it's really just a great day
for football.
>> It is. Yeah. I saw a lot of folks
tailgating, current students, uh alums
like you said, parents, friends, and
just really excited. I mean JJ, this is
our fourth home game of the year. Sixth
game overall for the Titans and just
watching this team play has become such
a pleasure and and being up here with
you uh has really been one of the
highlights of the fall for me as the
opening kickoff is fielded by Cole
Damarind at his own 30 and Cole has a a
solid return out to the 47 yd line.
>> Yeah, it's a great way to start uh this
game for the Titans. Just a short little
kick gets you all the way to midfield
and you get to set up your running game
early which has been very dominant for
the Titans which opens up that passing
game later.
>> Yeah, looked like uh Lawrence Jefferson
the third amongst the Anacostia Indians
to make that tackle. So they're going to
actually spot it at the 48 yd line and
uh it'll be first down from there for
Trinity with quarterback Deacon Scogan
in the shotgun.
Richmond Times Dispatch player of the
week. Carson Parks lined up behind him.
And the first play is going to be a pass
play to Devon Brown. And uh that was a
collector's item right there. A Devon
Brown drop. You don't see many of those.
Maybe still a little bit of nerves from
his uh pregame ceremony.
>> Yeah, it was fortunate that it didn't
bounce forward into the hands of
Anakasia player. It just bounced
backwards right uh to the ground. Wasn't
the best throw. We've seen Deacon made
better. I think he should have put it
more out in front for Dave on the catch
and be able to turn up field.
unfortunate play there for the Titans.
>> Yeah, and I think the play of Dee
Scogan, I mean, not just today, but
going forward, um, as Anacostia calls
their first time out here early on, but,
uh, I think, you know, Deak's had a
solid year, his first year as a starter,
