ASK THE EXPERT: Can you polish with an angle grinder?
FULLSTÄNDIGT TRANSKRIPT
[Music]
hello there I'm Paul from ask the expert
we have a really good question here
today and this is can you polish with an
angle grinder okay so a tool like this
normally reserved for quite aggressive
and uh big stock removal applications
well actually yes you can polish with an
angled grinder and here's something I
did earlier using this nice product here
from Norton which is our rapid prep
polish uh used in combination with this
compound here but
before you actually can use a product
such as this there are some steps prior
that you need to do to your your
component before you can use it to his
most effective nature and that is first
of all on a component like this we need
to take off the Weld and all the damage
and scratches on the on the front
surface here and to do that you can
either use a flap or Fiber disc such as
this item here and this one I'm going to
use a grit 80 because if I use a grit 80
yes it will take me a little bit more
time to take the world off but the
scratches I leave behind will not be so
deep so I spend less time later on
trying to remove them scratches so yeah
you could do with the P40 but you will
see the scratches once you start to
polish if you do that so p80 p120 is
better for the first step once you've
removed the weld with that product we
then need to blend the surface in to get
it nice and flat and to do that we can
recommend our Norton Vortex rapid blend
this is reasonably aggressive but still
these are really really nice finish on
the surface of the metal and we'll take
out all of the scratches left from the
flat disc used in stepper step one
really nice product this and then to
blend away and get us to a sub polish
finished we need to look at our rapid
blend 2 SF much softer silicon carbide
abrasive to give you a bright finish and
a fine grade this will take you directly
to a sub polished finish that could be
good enough for most of you out there
but if you really as this question is
asking if you really need to take it to
a Polish you need to employ as a fourth
step our rapid polish disc essentially
the same as a flap disc but instead of
abrasive flaps on the surface we
actually have a pure felt flaps and once
you load these flaps up with the
compound here this is what will give you
your bright shiny polished mirror finish
on this honest material really easily
always be aware there is a difference in
the maximum operating speed of a disc
like this this one is 7700 RPM so ensure
when you do use this disk you use it on
a variable speed grinder just to be
extra safe okay I hope that answers your
question any comments put them in the
chat below we'll see you later
