‘ANOTHER FLIP!’ Democrats MELT DOWN After Another Party Defection
FULLSTÄNDIGT TRANSKRIPT
Welcome back to explain America. This is
your host Kyle Becker. Another Democrat
has flipped. That's right. He is leaving
the Democratic party and now we are
seeing a lot more defections. That's
because the modern Democratic Party has
become so unpopular, its brand is so
damaged that we're seeing moderate and
independent politicians leave in droves.
But before we get into the story, please
like, share, and comment at Explain
America. We appreciate your support for
Common Sense Journalism. Now, you might
have seen my colleague Carmine Sabia
talk about John Federman and his dare to
the Democratic party about pushing him
too far because he could take a lot of
moderates with him if he decided to
defect from the Democratic party. And we
also had the story recently about the
New Hampshire mayor and the
representative there who decided to flip
from the Democratic party to the
Republican party. So now we have another
case and this is very interesting
because it comes out of North Carolina.
We're talking about state representative
Nasif Mahed who represents district 99
in the Charlotte area of Meckllinburgg
County and he announced that he's
leaving the Democratic party and he is
registering as unaffiliated.
Well, he lost the Democratic Party in
March to a more progressive challenger.
And in his statement, Mahed said, quote,
"I didn't leave the Democratic Party.
The Democratic Party left me." Well,
that's a familiar refrain. He emphasized
serving people over party agendas,
focusing on integrity, fairness, and
honest leadership for his constituents.
This is the second North Carolina House
Democrat to make this move in just days.
Representative Carla Cunningham from the
same county switched to unaffiliated
right before her lost primary challenge.
So now in New Hampshire, we have the
other case where Claremont mayor and
state representative Dale Gerard flipped
from Democrat to Republican. And he is a
freshman lawmaker who was elected in
2024. And he said after careful thought
that his personal values and voting
record no longer lined up with today's
Democratic party. Now, why would he
think that? Could it be because of all
the violent rhetoric and the extremism
coming out of the Democratic party, like
minority leader Hakee Jeff calling for
maximum warfare against Trump and then
refusing to back down after yet another
assassination attempt? I mean, this is a
party that seems to be going off the
rails. They're getting increasingly
desperate. And now that the Republicans
are fighting fire with fire by going
through redistricting after the
bombshell Supreme Court ruling about
this Voting Rights Act, well, the
Democrats are becoming increasingly
unhinged. They are openly calling for
retaliation against the Republican party
that can be perceived as uh a call for
political violence particularly among
people who are unstable or uh
susceptible to such extremist language.
So, uh, this latest flip, uh, from the
Democratic Party to an unaffiliated one
is just a signal that the Democratic
Party has lost its way and it is losing
politicians. People don't want to be
associated with a Democratic party that
cannot restrain itself, that is sewing
chaos and anarchy, throwing lot with
criminal aliens, the lowest of the low.
I mean, when you're backing up MS-13
gang members, you have an issue because
people have died because of MS-13 gang
members. We're talking about human
trafficking and drug smuggling. So, they
are backing up the lowest of the low
criminal aliens, and they don't seem to
be caring too much about the violence on
the city streets. They don't seem to
care about our national debt. They don't
care about American taxpayers getting
looted, especially in an affordability
crisis. They keep pushing and pushing
and there has to be a breaking point and
it appears that we have reached that
with a number of moderates and
independents. Now across the country,
Ballipedia has tracked dozens of state
lawmakers switching parties in recent
years, most from Democrat to Republican
or independent, often after primaries
where progressives purge anyone who
doesn't tow the line 100%. So, look,
this is exactly what I've been saying
for years. The Democratic Party is in
the midst of a self-inflicted collapse.
Moderates like Mahed and Gerard aren't
traitors. They're normal Americans who
woke up one day and realized the party
left them. It abandoned common sense
governance for radical identity
politics, open borders, and a purge of
anyone who dares vote based on what's
best for their district instead of the
national machine demands. These switches
are early warning signs for Democrats
heading into the 2026 midterms. The
great realignment is here. The party
that embraced extremism is hemorrhaging
the very people who used to hold it
together. Voters are rejecting it and
more elected officials are following.
Stay tuned. There's going to be plenty
more where that came from. And we always
appreciate hearing from you at Explain
America.
