a London street now sadly an ordinary

0:02

day. Two people stabbed simply because

0:04

they're Jewish. It's now been declared a

0:06

terrorist incident. It's Iranianbacked.

0:09

And what do we get? What do we get from

0:10

the prime minister? The usual, you know,

0:13

justice will be served. It won't. We

0:15

still got the IRGC, not as a prescribed

0:18

organization, though he's now promised

0:20

to do it. And we still have the Muslim

0:22

Brotherhood banned in most sensible

0:24

Muslim countries, able to do what they

0:26

like, and hate marches allowed in

0:28

British cities. Something much bigger

0:30

needs to happen. My thoughts with the

0:33

community, but I'm afraid we need

0:34

action. Good morning. How are you?

0:36

>> Good morning.

0:37

>> Lovely talk to you. Glad

0:38

>> to talk to you. And can you believe it's

0:40

all happening again?

0:41

>> Could it happen again?

0:42

>> Well, we got to get Well, we got to get

0:43

it back on track. We got to get

0:45

>> We depend on your kindness and your

0:47

generosity is constant.

0:51

>> Yes, I'm afraid it is a constant, but

0:53

I'll do everything I can. The

0:56

>> three things the government can do

0:58

today. very very quickly to say look we

1:01

know the differences what is right and

1:03

what is wrong just as we come we don't

1:07

want to flood the cafe thank you

1:10

>> quiet morning

1:12

>> well let me start by saying what an

1:14

appalling attack this is and uh my

1:17

thoughts and all of our thoughts are

1:19

with the victims their families their

1:21

loved ones and um let's be frank this is

1:24

not an isolated incident there've been a

1:26

series of anti-semitic attacks. I know

1:29

firsthand the anxiety that that is

1:33

causing in the community um and concern.

1:35

I was at Kenton uh synagogue last week

1:37

where I heard uh a lot about that level

1:40

of anxiety. It'll be worse after today.

1:43

We're very much in touch with the uh

1:45

community and I'll visit as soon as

1:47

possible.

1:48

Um this is yet another anti-semitic

1:51

attack in this country and you've said

1:53

yourself that it's the first

1:54

responsibility of government uh to

1:56

ensure citizen safety. Uh your critics

1:58

will say you're not doing that.

2:00

>> Well, I've just held a COBRA meeting

2:02

bringing together all the relevant

2:04

partners um including the home

2:07

secretary, uh the London mayor, the

2:10

Metropolitan Commissioner uh to

2:12

coordinate our response um and to look

2:15

at enhanced security. I've also spoken

2:18

to CST. There is enhanced funding

2:20

already in place. Uh we need to increase

2:23

that to give the level of protection

2:25

that is needed. We need to take measures

2:28

to deal with Malay malign state actors.

2:31

Um but we also have to be really clear

2:34

um that we need to get to the root

2:36

causes of extremism and anti-semitism.

2:39

And so that is what we're doing.

2:41

>> Um Cammy Bnoff says this is a national

2:44

emergency. Uh Nigel Farage says the

2:46

Jewish community is in your thoughts and

2:47

prayers uh but with no action. What do

2:50

you say to these criticisms?

2:51

>> Well, the government is taking action um

2:53

in relation to security, cohesion,

2:56

extremism, but of course um it's our

3:00

responsibility um to coordinate the

3:02

immediate response here to uh this

3:05

appalling attack to ensure security is

3:08

in place to take other measures. Um I'm

3:11

holding a meeting tomorrow with the

3:13

criminal justice agencies to make sure

3:15

that we can have effective and swift

3:17

justice uh in these um cases. But we do

3:21

have to recognize the levels of anxiety

3:23

and concern uh there are that I know

3:26

about um in terms of the Jewish

3:28

community feeling very much um exposed

3:31

and vulnerable feeling they've got to

3:33

hide their identity sometimes in the

3:35

health service sometimes at school on

3:37

the streets where they live. Um and it's

3:39

our job to make sure that they feel safe

3:41

um and secure. It's our job uh to uh

3:44

make sure that we absolutely deal with

3:46

the roots of anti-semitism and

3:47

extremism. That is what we will do.

3:49

>> Home Secretary, the Metropolitan Police

3:51

have said that this is being treated as

3:53

a terrorist incident. Why is that? Is

3:56

there any evidence that perhaps uh

3:58

terrorists linked to Iran might have

4:00

been involved here?

4:02

>> Uh well, this horrifying attack has now

4:04

been declared a terrorist uh incident.

4:06

The police are continuing to

4:08

investigate, but the initial uh

4:10

circumstances do suggest that the uh

4:12

designation as a terrorist incident is

4:14

the right one. As more of the facts are

4:16

established in what is very early uh

4:19

investigation phase at the moment, we

4:20

will of course be sharing those with the

4:22

public. There isn't any further

4:24

information we can give at this stage

4:25

other than that this horrifying attack

4:27

has now been declared a terrorist

4:29

incident.

4:30

>> Connections to Iran perhaps? Well, it's

4:32

it's very early to say uh what the

4:34

motivations of this attacker may have

4:36

been and it would be improper for me to

4:39

speculate whilst the facts are being

4:41

established. Uh but as soon as more

4:43

facts are established then we will of

4:44

course be keeping the public updated. In

4:47

terms of keeping the public safe and

4:49

particularly the Jewish community safe,

4:50

the PM said that uh the first

4:53

responsibility of the state is to keep

4:55

people safe and yet the Jewish community

4:58

are clearly less safe than their

5:00

neighbors, aren't they?

5:01

>> Look, I want to be very clear that uh

5:03

this is a horrifying attack. It is now

5:05

being declared as a terrorist incident

5:06

and my thoughts are with the victims,

5:08

their families and the wider community

5:11

as well. An attack on our Jewish

5:14

community is an attack on us all and we

5:16

take the safety of our Jewish community

5:18

very seriously. The government has

5:20

already been taking action on security

5:22

on making sure that our synagogues, our

5:25

community centers, our Jewish schools

5:26

are well protected. Uh there has been an

5:29

enhanced police presence that will

5:31

continue and we will strain every senue

5:33

to keep all of our Jewish community

5:34

safe.

5:35

>> You talk about an enhanced police

5:37

presence but as you've said this this is

5:40

not the first time they've been

5:41

attacked. There have been quite a few

5:42

particularly in the golders's green

5:44

area. One thinks of the ambulances being

5:46

torched and so on. Um what more can you

5:49

do? What more needs to be done to make

5:51

the Jewish people Jewish community feel

5:54

safer because clearly they're very

5:55

worried.

5:56

>> Well, look, my first responsibility is

5:58

is to make sure that on the security

6:00

side of the picture and also with

6:01

policing that we are doing absolutely

6:03

everything uh that we can. And that's

6:05

why the government has recently

6:07

announced an uplift in funding for

6:09

project servtor, which is responsible

6:11

for putting more specialist and plain

6:13

clothes police officers uh within some

6:15

of our Jewish uh community areas. I I I

6:18

will make sure we do everything in our

6:20

power to keep our community safe, but

6:22

we're also very clear as a government

6:23

that we have to tackle the root causes

6:26

of anti-semitism that is leading to this

6:28

environment in which our Jewish

6:30

community is coming under attack. We put

6:32

money behind education to try to deal

6:34

with these issues when our children are

6:36

young so that they understand how we

6:38

should behave towards one another to

6:39

root out hatred before it is able to

6:42

take hold. And my colleagues uh in the

6:44

health department and in other parts of

6:46

government are reviewing the wider

6:48

response uh that we need as a government

6:50

because we are absolutely clear. Yes, we

6:51

have to keep our community safe but we

6:53

do have to deal with the root causes as

6:55

well and we will. Well, you talk about

6:57

the root causes, but uh whatever you're

6:59

doing about the root causes doesn't seem

7:01

to be working, does it?

7:02

>> Well, I look and I we are already taking

7:04

a large amount of action on security uh
