'Kick him OUT!' Labour MPs urged to 'grow a backbone' and BOOT 'COWARD' Keir Starmer
全トランスクリプト
Joining me now is the shadow home
secretary Chris Phelp. Mr. Phelp, great
to see you this morning, but very
worrying scenes out of America. What's
your reaction to what's gone on
overnight?
>> Good morning, Camila. Yes, very worrying
indeed. Whenever democratically elected
leaders or people running for office get
attacked in the way that President Trump
was, uh, it's something that should
deeply deeply alarm all of us because it
was an attack not just on Donald Trump
as an individual, but an attack on the
entire democratic system itself.
Whenever elected politicians are
attacked in this way or are subject to
intimidation, it is undermining our
democratic system. That is why it is so
serious. I'm glad President Trump is
okay. I'm glad that they've rapidly
apprehended the person responsible and I
think the security services in America,
the Secret Service as they call it, need
to make sure the security around the
president and of course his majesty the
king who is flying out there is stepped
up.
>> How worried should we be about uh King
Charles and Queen Camila traveling out
to Washington? I thought it was
significant that in the prime minister's
statement he referenced the potential
for this being an attack on the freedom
of the press. We've got our two most
senior royals, the US president and
indeed a huge media presence all
together next week. Should we be worried
and should security be significantly
stepped up, Mr. Phil?
>> Well, I certainly think security should
be urgently reviewed to make sure there
are no loopholes. I mean, security
around the king is very high rightly
anyway, but it should be reviewed and if
necessary stepped up. We can't take any
risks at all. But I think it is
important the trip does go ahead because
we can't allow the actions of people who
commit acts of violence to stop our
political process and our diplomatic
process from going ahead. We can never
let violence prevail. And just as for
example Margaret Thatcher went ahead
with her speech uh in the 1980s after
that awful IRA bomb attack. We should
not allow these kind of attacks to
prevent or disrupt uh politics and
diplomacy continuing as usual.
Let's just move it back to domestic
matters. Mr. Phelp, the prime minister
this morning has given an interview to
the Sunday Times in which he claims he
will be around to fight the next general
election for Labor. What's your reaction
to that headline?
>> Well, I think it's laughable, frankly.
He's barely going to be around to fight
the local elections in a week and a
half, let alone the general election in
3 years time. Frankly, Kstarma should
resign straight away. Partly because he
had the misjudgment to appoint Peter
Mandlesson as US ambassador despite his
links to Russia and China and to Jeffrey
Epstein because he lied during the
general election campaign saying he
wouldn't put up taxes, but he's put up
taxes all over the place. So, frankly,
Star should resign. And if he doesn't
resign, Labour MPs and ministers should
have the backbone to get rid of him
because he is a catastrophic prime
minister who is seriously damaging our
national interest with every minute that
he remains in office.
>> Well, he's clearly not going to resign
because he's given that interview this
morning saying, "I intend to stick
around for the next general election."
>> Are you planning a trip this year? Well,
staying connected when traveling abroad
is the one thing everyone worries about,
and that's where Sy comes in, the
sponsor of this video. SLY is an app
that gives you instant mobile data in
200 destinations without ridiculous
roaming charges. There's no physical SIM
cards, no airport cues, and no dodgy
vending machines. Here's how it works.
Download the SY app, pick your country,
choose your data plan, and install the
eim once. Then when you land, it
activates instantly. You're online
straight away. Maps are working, Uber's
booked, and your photos are uploading.
And the best part, you only install the
eim once. On your next trip, just buy a
new plan and switch it back on. Some
have even found it's faster than hotel
Wi-Fi. Plus, there's ad blocking, 24/7
support, and a full refund if your phone
isn't compatible. Before your next trip,
download Sailor using our link below.
Use code news for 15% off and get sorted
before you travel. Go to s.comnews
or scan the QR code now. And thank you
to SY for supporting the channel.
>> Look, you're the official opposition.
Have you missed a trick here? You
haven't acted quickly enough. We've now
got Parliament being peroged on
Wednesday. The jury's out as to whether
there's going to be another PMQs, which
means that the prime minister will avoid
scrutiny. Shouldn't you have tabled a
motion of confidence last week? There's
no way either of you forcing him to
appear before the privileges committee.
So, you haven't been robust enough in
your opposition, have you, Mr. Phil?
>> Well, hang on a sec. It was the
Conservatives uh in the first place that
put down the motion that forced the
disclosure of all of the Mandlesson
documents. That was a conservative
motion in Parliament. If Kristama does
try and weasle his way out of Prime
Minister's questions in three days time
on Wednesday, that would be an act of
abject cowardice by Kama. Uh and I think
the public will judge him accordingly if
he's too frightened to turn up to PMQs
on Wednesday. I think there should be a
privileges committee inquiry into
whether he misled parliament because he
said due process had been followed. That
was not true because the cabinet
secretary Simon Casease told him to get
Mandlesson vetted in advance of the
appointment and Starmmer didn't do that.
Star also said in parliament last week I
think at PMQs in answer to Kem Badnock.
He said that no pressure was put on the
foreign office about the Mandlesson
vetting but the evidence given by Ollie
Robbins directly contradicted that. In
fact, Ollie Robbins said there was daily
pressure being put by number 10 on the
foreign office. So there's two examples
of where Karma misled parliament. This
is the man by the way. Let's not forget
who cloaked himself in a mantle of
superilious moral superiority and now it
turns out he's the man that appointed
Peter Mandlesson and has been it seems
to me misleading parliament. That's why
I think uh Starmmer should resign and if
he won't resign voluntarily and as you
say probably won't then Labour MPs and
ministers should kick him out.
>> Well, Labour in opposition have managed
to force out three prime ministers.
You've not managed one even despite all
of the problems with Kama that you've
just cited. I mean, we could add to that
16 U-turns. We could add to that the
appointment of Lord Hurmer as attorney
general. Now, it's been revealed even
though he denies some of the claims
about his involvement with the Al Swedi
accusers. I mean, the list goes on. You
haven't done an effective enough job as
opposition because the prime minister is
still in post.
>> Camila, that is total nonsense. Those 16
U-turns were forced by the Conservative
opposition. Things like uh the winter
fuel U-turn, the family farm tax U-turn.
The fact the Chaos Islands have not been
handed over to Maitius is because
Conservatives in the House of Lords
managed working with others managed to
delay the passage of the bill. And in
the meantime, Donald Trump thankfully
has changed his mind. Those U-turns are
thanks to the Conservative opposition
despite the fact there are only 120 of
us in parliament. and K star had a
landslide win. His majority is 160 or
