Medical Coding And Billing Tutorials for Beginners | ICD-Chapter 4 - 17
VOLLSTÄNDIGE ABSCHRIFT
Hello everyone, welcome to great online
training. Today we are going to learn
about ICD chapter 4 which is endocrine
nutritional and metabolic diseases.
Arjuna are you there
Arjuna? So the code ranges in this
chapter are E00 to E89. Okay. So today
we going to cover following topics.
Diabetes militus introduction then
diabetes militus complications then ICD
coding guidelines for diabetes militus
and complications due to insulin pump
malfunction and secondary diabetes
militus. Then we'll see diabetes militus
in pregnancy and lastly question and
answers. Okay. So we'll see how to put
complication due to insulin pump
malfunction. Secondary diabetes militus
how to code and again diabetes militus
in pregnancy. Okay. So let's proceed.
First we'll see introduction. So in this
in this topic we have several code
ranges or you can say sub chapters.
Okay. E00 to E9 is for disorders of
thyroid gland. E08 to E13 is for
diabetes militus. E15 to E16 is for
other disorders of glucose regulation
and pancreatic internal secretion. Then
E20 to E35 is for disorders of other
endocrine glands. E36 is for
intraoperative complications of
endocrine system. E42 to E46 is for
malnutrition. E52 E64 is for other
nutritional
deficiencies. Then E65 to E68 is for
overweight, obesity and other hyper
eliminations. Then E7 to E88 is for
metabolic disorders and E89 is for
post-procedural endoprine and metabolic
complications and disorders not
elsewhere classifiers. Okay. So these
are several code ranges uh for different
sub chapters but
basically there are lots of guidelines
to follow uh in diabetes. So today we'll
see guidelines for Eero to E13 because
this sub chapter has many guidelines. So
what is diabetes? Diabetes simulators
arises due to body's inability to
produce enough insulin to regulate the
blood glucose or the inability to
effectively use the produced insulin.
Either our body is not capable of
producing enough insulin or in other
time even if our body produces enough
insulin our body not able to effectively
use that insulin. Okay. In both the
cases diabetes militus happen because it
will increase your body's glucose level.
Right? So diabetes militus can be
categorized into type one and type two.
So this picture can explain better. This
is healthy pancrea which produces
insulin. Then insulin
receptor receives this glucose and
convert properly. Okay. But in case of
type 1 diabetes,
pancreas are not able to produce
insulin. Okay. But uh and in case of
type 2 diabetes militus insulin is
produced but our insulin receptors are
not working properly. So cells fail to
respond insulin properly. Okay. So in
type one pancreas are failed to produce
insulin. Whereas in case of type 2
diabetes melus pancreas are producing
enough insulin but that cell cells
insulin receptors are not working
properly. So cell fail to uh respond to
that insulin properly. Okay. So first
we'll see type 1 diabetes. Type 1
diabetes mitus it is also known as
juvenile diabetes as this form of
diabetes appears before 18 years of age
or insulin or insulin dependent diabetes
militus. So type 1 diabetes militus is
also known as juvenile diabetes militus
because it arise it appear before 18
years of age or sometime it also known
as insulin dependent diabetes militus as
it is an autoimmune disease caused
because of selective destruction of
insulin producing beta cells of pancreas
which leads to little or no production
of insulin. Okay. So type 1 diabetes
militus patients are are dependent on
external insulin supply to survive.
Okay. So they as to external insulin for
their survival of life. Okay. That's why
it is also known as insulin dependent
diabetes. Okay. Sorry. And all this
information is very very important. Even
though if you are going for medical
coding interview as a fresher or as a
experienced medical coder or even in
your medical coding exam or any
interview related aptitude medical
coding interview related aptitude exam
they will definitely ask you question
about this type of diabetes militus or
difference between them or they can they
may ask you to expl explain difference
between type one and type two. Okay. Or
there there are different synonyms. So
type one is joal diabetes militus or IDM
insulin dependent diabetes militus.
Okay. The next type is type 2 diabetes
militus. It is adult onset diabetes also
known as non-inssulin dependent diabetes
militus. Okay. So
NDM means noninssulin dependent diabetes
militus. Please make a note of it. IDM
means type one whereas NIDM means type.
Okay. This is the most common type of
diabetes seen in elderly population
caused due to inadequate insulin uh
production by the pancreas or due to
inability of the body to use the insulin
effectively. Okay. So type two diabetes
militus is also known as Ni NDM. So
please make a note of it. Type 1
diabetes militus is also known as
juvenile diabetes and IDM insulin
dependent diabetes militus. Whereas type
2 diabetes militus is also known as
non-inssulin dependent diabetes
simulators. N I DD M okay you can say
that type 2 diabetes mitus is due to it
is
lifestyle related diabetes militus okay
it depends on
how you your daily activities how you
take your daily food and all okay so now
we'll see complications of diabetes
militus in case of brain it increase
risk of stroke or cardiovascular disease
including
transientic attack, cognitive impairment
etc. Okay. If you have diabetes you have
risk of high high BP high blood pressure
and insulin resistant increase risk of
heart disease. Okay. In case of
extremities, peripheral vascular disease
results from narrowing of blood vessels,
increasing the risk of for reduced or
lack of blood flow in legs. Okay. Fit
wounds are likely to heal slowly
contributing to gangrine and other
complications. So, uh these are
complications of diabetes malitus. Again
in case of I uh if you have uh high
glucose high blood glucose and high
blood pressure that can damage eye blood
vessels causing retinopathy catacts and
glaucoma. Okay. In case of kidney if you
have high blood pressure damages small
blood blood vessels and excess blood
glucose overworks the kidney resulting
in
neopathy. Okay. And in case of
neuropathy, hypoglycemia damages nerves
in the peripheral nervous system. Okay.
This may result in pain and or numbness.
Feet bones may go
undictated get infect uh sorry go
undictated go get infected and lead to
okay. So there are many chances of
diabetes patient that if they have any
uh wound or those wound will heal slowly
and they contributing to gangrine and
other complications. Okay. So these are
complications related to diabetes
militus. Now we'll see different coding
guidelines ICD coding guidelines for
diabetes militus. Diabetes milit militus
ICD10 course may be single or
combination course which includes
followed. Why we are learning ICD coding
guidelines for diabetes simulators?
Because most of the diabetes militus
course have as combination. So there are
lots of coding guidelines present for
diabetes militus. Other sub chapters are
easy. So there are uh not much coding
guidelines that's why we learn diabetes
simulators coding guidelines. Okay. And
even
uh in your medical coding interview or
any exam they mostly ask for diabetes
militus only. Okay. Diabetes militus
