0:00

what's up YouTube Welcome Back to the

0:01

National Channel today we're getting

0:04

down and dirty polishing some Wheels I

0:06

made a video polishing some Alcoa super

0:09

singles a couple years ago now and I

0:13

wanted to kind of revisit this and we're

0:15

going to do it on a set of dually wheels

0:17

for the first gen Dodge which is sitting

0:20

outside right now let's get started with

0:22

what we're going to use to polish these

0:24

things

0:24

and I'll show you how we got them so

0:27

this is going to be one of the rear

0:30

outers

0:31

this is the other side rear outer I've

0:35

already got this one cleaned up ready to

0:37

polish

0:38

these are going to be the two fronts

0:40

and you can see these were probably ran

0:44

as fronts before

0:46

because this is super dirty here and

0:48

then the other side looks pretty clean

0:50

so what I'm going to do with the fronts

0:54

is just clean the inside I'm not going

0:56

to polish it and then we will polish

0:58

this face and that one obviously and

1:01

then that's going to be a rear inner and

1:04

this is a rear inner as well so the

1:06

inner I'm just going to kind of leave

1:08

brushed like this as long as it's clean

1:13

I'll probably throw a little bit of a

1:15

Polish on this but there's going to be

1:16

another wheel right here

1:18

so you're really not going to see this

1:20

especially with the tires I'm running in

1:23

case you guys want to see that I'll give

1:24

you a sneak peek

1:25

running 35 inch boggers on 22 inch

1:30

alcoas anyway let's get into this so

1:34

I've got this laid out kind of like

1:36

heavy cut over here

1:38

and then finishing over here

1:41

so this wheel which I've started with

1:45

um on the inside of the rears by the way

1:48

this is also heavy

1:51

cutting Airways

1:53

on less heavy metal this is like

1:57

basically like a Scotch Brite pad

2:01

I mean this is kind of similar like a

2:03

scotch brake pad here and then this one

2:05

is like really stiff and this thing will

2:08

eat just all the dirt and road Grime and

2:11

all that stuff off of there but you are

2:13

going to have to do some sanding after

2:15

this if you want to polish that surface

2:18

because this is very rough if you need

2:20

to clean up a wheel

2:22

you could use this what they call a

2:25

satin Airway so let me show you what we

2:27

use the satin Airway for

2:29

a wheel that looks like this

2:33

I'll use the satin Airway I'm going to

2:35

come in here probably clean it with some

2:37

alcohol or brake clean or some kind of

2:41

soap uh that'll break down some some of

2:44

the grease and grime and then we can use

2:47

the satin Airway and that's going to

2:49

make a wheel that looks like this

2:51

it'll make it look like this so there is

2:54

some like leftover residue and whatever

2:57

I'm going to try to clean that off but

3:02

we will be able to polish this

3:04

how it sits with with the heavy cutting

3:08

Airway so they call this the quick cut I

3:11

believe there's like a yellow piece in

3:13

here yeah so we use the orange buffing

3:15

wheel with the orange compound we use

3:18

the green buffing wheel

3:20

and I believe they call this a coloring

3:22

wheel with the green compound and then

3:26

we'll finish with this show and shine

3:29

Airway which is blue and then we'll use

3:31

the blue Compound on that so you have to

3:34

have a rake you can get this online with

3:38

all this stuff and that will clean out

3:40

your pad and just freshen it up kind of

3:43

fluff it up a little bit before you hit

3:46

the wheel what I'll do is show you with

3:49

the uh satin Airway which is that on

3:53

this wheel

3:54

and then I'll show you this at some

3:57

point on the inner of the front

4:01

and that will just basically clean

4:03

everything up and then we'll get into

4:05

polishing

4:06

if you are polishing you absolutely need

4:09

some kind of respirator or mask I made

4:12

this mistake last time and did not use a

4:14

respirator or a mask and it is some

4:18

dirty work let me tell you you'll be

4:20

blowing your nose with

4:23

just aluminum dust and all kinds of crap

4:26

coming out for weeks

4:28

it makes your throat hurt it's just all

4:31

around not good for you so do not

4:33

breathe this stuff in because

4:37

it is not good ready to go

4:48

you can speed it up a little bit but

4:50

this thing will start to eat into the

4:52

aluminum wheel if you go any further

4:54

than that

5:00

[Music]

5:02

all right I used the satin Airway on the

5:05

inside of this wheel and the inside of

5:08

this wheel now you can see a little bit

5:11

of kind of imperfection right there so

5:15

if you do not

5:17

remove that you will see it when you

5:21

polish this wheel

5:23

I will say it's a hundred percent worth

5:25

spending the 40 bucks on one of these uh

5:30

respirator things

5:31

[Music]

5:43

this is the second front I just finished

5:47

the first one with the orange wheel

5:51

which is the heavy cutting so what I did

5:54

on that one I'm going to repeat on this

6:00

I've got one of these sanding discs well

6:03

it's kind of like a hook and loop it's

6:05

got Velcro on it and then I've got a pad

6:08

in between and I've got a thousand grit

6:11

sandpaper

6:13

and that I can put on the grinder and

6:16

just run at really low speeds and sand

6:20

all these imperfections out here and in

6:24

here

6:25

I've got this spacer on here and it's

6:27

kind of like just an arbor extension

6:31

but it is super helpful when running

6:34

these polishing wheels it is very

6:37

convenient to run these so your pad

6:39

isn't right here next to the grinder

6:42

if that makes sense

6:55

now once you use the Thousand grit it

6:58

should look something like this

7:01

pretty good sanding marks but it is

7:03

pretty shiny and just completely clean

7:06

so now we're going to use the satin

7:08

Airway which is basically just Scotch

7:10

Brite on the buffing wheel we're going

7:12

to run that at around a thousand RPMs

7:15

and make sure all of these scratch marks

7:17

kind of go in a circle pattern around

7:20

the wheel and this should be a little

7:22

bit finer than 1000 grit so this should

7:25

take out the Thousand grit scratches and

7:28

then after that we'll be ready to hit it

7:30

with the orange polishing wheel which

7:32

will look like that

7:37

foreign

7:45

this wheel is ready to polish one thing

7:47

I want to mention is you basically want

7:49

to get this wheel looking completely

7:53

uniform around it so if there's any like

7:57

darker areas or lighter areas that means

8:00

it's either sanded you know more than

8:03

the rest of it or less than the rest of

8:05

it so you want everything to look the

8:08

same before you move on to polishing all

8:11

right I got the orange wheel on there I

8:13

want to give you guys a quick rundown on

8:15

exactly how to do this and then I'm

8:18

going to run it on the wheel and you can

8:20

follow along and then we'll change it

8:23

over to the green wheel with the green

8:25

compound and then blue after that and

8:28

these should be shining like a new penny

8:31

so when you get this thing on there

8:34

you want to hold the rake with your

8:36

handle like this and just kind of

8:39

feather the trigger so this thing

8:41

doesn't go crazy all right so

8:47

that's a very easy way to do it that's

8:48

all you need to do and you're going to

8:50

want to do that every time before you

8:52

put this on there so just hold this kind

8:54

of at an angle if you hold it like this

8:57

it's going to shoot out of your hand and

8:59

uh it can throw it pretty hard so it can

9:02

get kind of scary so just make sure you

9:04

kind of

9:07

that's all you need

9:09

you'll you might need to do that a

9:11

couple times while you're polishing the

9:13

wheel

9:15

you'll kind of get the feel for it

9:16

because

9:18

when you're running this polisher at

9:20

first it'll look really shiny and then

9:22

maybe you do half of it and it starts to
