My Parents came to USE the Hospital in China! (UK don't have this)
VOLLSTÄNDIGE ABSCHRIFT
Oh my goodness, [music] just take a look
at this hospital.
It is incredible. [music] It looks like
a luxury five-star hotel. Can you
believe that this this is a hospital?
I want to start with a real story. A
while ago, my dad went for what was
supposed to be just a routine check on
his lungs in the UK. But, during that
check, the nurse spotted something
unexpected, an ascending aortic aneurysm
near his heart. A month later, they
booked him in for an ultrasound to check
it further and confirm it in September
20 24.
And obviously, hearing something like
that is enough to make anyone worry.
But, my old pops wasn't able to speak
with a doctor about it until March 2025,
6 months later. Can you believe that?
Even then, he couldn't even get a
physical appointment with a doctor.
It was a telephone appointment after 6
months
of waiting. After that, he wanted to get
a proper CT scan done through the NHS
just to find out exactly what is going
on. But, the waiting time just for the
CT scan was another 5 months. Just for a
scan, 5 months. Now, luckily, a few
months into that wait, my parents
already had a trip planned to come and
visit me here in China. And while they
were here, they told me the whole story.
And I said,
"Wait, hold on just a minute now.
China don't mess about with 6-month
waiting times. Let's pop into a hospital
while you're here." So, we went to the
hospital in Guizhou, where I live. And
you are not going to believe this, but
in just one day, yes, one day, we turned
up, got my dad registered, booked the
scan, did the CT scan, got the results
back, and sat down with a doctor to talk
through everything properly. In fact, we
even had enough time left over to check
his kidneys as well, all in one
day. And thankfully, the results showed
the aneurysm wasn't growing at a
dangerous rate, which of course was a
huge relief. And we went on and enjoyed
our lovely trip around [music] China.
But, what really stayed with me was
this. That happened in Guizhou, [music]
one of China's
poorer provinces. And even there, the
speed, efficiency, and [music] access
completely
blew me away.
So, if that was the experience in one of
the less developed parts of China, then
what does a top-level smart hospital in
Shanghai look like? Because now, I'm
here in Shanghai, one of China's most
advanced regions, to visit Renji
Hospital, a place that feels less like a
traditional hospital and more like a
glimpse into where healthcare is heading
in the future. And honestly, this is
exactly the kind of thing most people in
the West never get to see. When people
talk about China, they usually talk
about high-speed rail, electric cars,
robots, drones, or futuristic skylines.
But, what they often miss is that same
speed [music] of innovation is now
showing up in healthcare. I mean,
just take a look at this. It looks like
a luxury five-star hotel. Can you
believe that this this is a hospital?
And look at this, I found this quite
fascinating in the IVF department. They
can actually show you video footage of
the exact moment of conception and the
growth of the embryo. [music] You can
see your little baby growing from day
one. And you can even watch it on an app
if you can't come into the hospital. You
can watch it on your phone. Right, we're
now in the operation department. And
here at Renji Hospital, they've been
using Mindray's [music]
products and smart medical solutions as
part of its system, helping build the
kind of healthcare environment that
feels far more connected, far more
modern, and far more intelligent than
what many people
might expect. And that's what makes this
interesting, because for a lot of people
outside of China, there's still this
outdated assumption that innovation in
medicine must come from somewhere else.
But, when you look at what's happening
here, you start to realize China isn't
just [music] catching up. In many areas,
it's already setting the pace. I did
some digging and I found out that
Mindray is actually the only global
medtech giant headquartered [music]
in China. And just take a look at this
here. Mindray is even using VR here to
help train doctors in a much more
immersive way. But, it goes beyond that.
Doctors can use it for remote
diagnostics and to review real-time data
in a much more visual, interactive way.
So, rather than just learning from
textbooks or looking at a screen, they
can practice realistic scenarios,
analyze live information more clearly,
and even collaborate across distances.
Welcome to the future, guys. Right now,
we're in the ICU. And obviously, to
protect people's privacy, I'm not going
to show anyone here. But, what I want to
show you is their Chi ENN LLM, which is
quite fascinating. Usually, doctors
would spend half an hour on one complex
medical record. But, this AI assistant
nails it in just 1 minute. That's 30
times faster. Plus, with 24/7 monitoring
and 5-second clinical suggestions, it's
basically the doctor's ultimate
co-pilot. It's also used in the
operating room to help monitor
anesthesia, analyzing patient data in
real-time, and giving doctors smarter
support during surgery.
At the end of the day, it's about giving
time back to the doctors so they can
focus on
what matters.
And today, Renji Hospital is actually
hosting a conference
right now. The people attending this
conference are hospital directors and
medical leaders from different
countries, all
coming here to Renji Hospital to see
how this kind of advanced technology is
being used in the real world.
>> [music]
>> And I think that says a lot, because
they're not here for theory, they're
here to learn, to observe, and to take
ideas back home that could help improve
their own hospitals, their own systems,
and ultimately, patient care in their
own countries. And when you see that
happening here in Shanghai, it really
makes you realize [music] that China is
no longer just part of the global
conversation on healthcare innovation.
In many [music] ways, it's becoming one
of the places helping lead it.
Seeing so many foreigners here today
actually coming here for treatment
really says a lot. And honestly, after
what happened with my dad, I can
completely understand why. When
>> [music]
>> people can come here, get seen quickly,
get proper answers, and access this
[music]
kind of advanced care, it's easy to see
why China is becoming more and more
attractive for international patients.
This isn't just a futuristic hospital to
the world because they trust
what's here.
Okay, anyway, that is the end of this
video. I will see you guys at the next
location. Who knows where it's going to
be. See you in the next one. Signing
off.
